I feel like I am still at the novice level in writing a prescription. Throughout the course, I went through various prescriptions in quizzes and assignments as well. I feel I know the basics of prescription writing like patient name, allergies, date of birth, medication, strength, quantity, indication, license number of the provider, and a DEA number for the controlled substances. I personally feel that it is ongoing learning, and I will learn throughout the other courses and in my practicum. I use various resources while I practiced prescription writing. The websites like Epocrates, Lexicomp, UpToDate, Micromedex, prescriber’s digital references provided valuable information while writing a prescription. For example, while preparing a prescription for metronidazole, I used UpToDate, where information starting from antibiotics, indication, dosage, frequency, route, toxicities, and drug interactions are provided, which are based on evidencebased guidelines.
